State restrictions on restaurants and a reduced population of students continue to stress business owners and workers, though some are finding creative workarounds.

Maristane Rocha's brothers opened Luigi’s in 1970, when they purchased and transformed a pizza house into the Italian dining establishment it’s known as today. Rocha joined them at the restaurant in 1990 and when they retired to Brazil, she took over.

As for restaurant takeout, digital ordering is growing quickly. Seifer says pre-pandemic digital ordering (online or via apps) made up 6% of orders; now it's double that.
